The Sustainable Start-up Award is a discretionary grant awarded to Tyne and Wear residents whose businesses positively demonstrate their commitment to supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its mission of ending poverty, inequality, and climate change via innovative thinking, emerging technologies, and ethical business models.
Discretionary grants of up to £1,000 are available and can be used to support the initial costs incurred when starting a business, for example, purchasing recycled materials or energy efficient tools or equipment.
To apply, you must:
- Be aged between 18-30 and reside in Tyne and Wear
- Have a business idea that supports at least one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
- Have received at least 12 hours of European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) support
- Have less than £15,000 in total personal assets
- Demonstrate a need for financial support
- Be pre-start or have been trading for less than three months
